AESOP'S FABLES

The Wolf and the Nursemaid (Aesop’s Fables) / In True Love, Actions Speak Louder than Words

“In True Lover, Actions Speak Louder than Words”

“You wicked child! I’ll throw you out

To make the wolf a meal!”

A nursemaid threatened with a shout

Of angry bluffing zeal.

A wolf who passed below the sil

Heard her with watering tongue.

“Ah, soon,” he thought, I’ll have my fill

Of the tender and the young!”

All day he waited in the cold,

A starved though hopeful beast.

But not a glimpse did he behold

Of the expected feast.

At last, with tail that dragged the dust,

He slunk into his den.

“Liar!” He muttered in disgust.

“I’ll not be fooled again!

Henceforward I will never trust

The promises of men!”
