Clutching a juicy chunk of steak, a dog
Was gladly homeward bound,
When crossing a small stream upon a log
He saw another bound, —
A mirrored creature, –eager jaws clamped tight
Round some delicious meat.
The watcher, at this appetizing sight,
Hoped for a double treat.
But as he snapped to seize his rival’s treasure,
His own was dropped and lost.
Greed’s shadow-prize, he learned with little pleasure,
May have too high a cost.
Ancient Greek Philosopher, Socrates said “Contentment is natural wealth, luxury is artificial poverty.”
If you are not content with what you have, you may lose all.
